2002 Mercedes C240 Key Fob Issue - Help!
Hi All,
My brother gave me a 2002 Mercedes C240 (119K) over a month ago and said both key fobs only worked when held within close proximity to the infrared windows on the door handles or near the rear window antenna. He was the original owner and the key fobs were original. I researched the issue and found that fuse #8 (7.5 Amp) in the trunk, which controls the antenna amplifier, was blown and kept popping when replaced. In addition learned that fuse #8 is also connected to the alarm siren.
More research led me to a possible cause being a bad siren located under the passenger's side plastic wheel well shield. Evidently the siren can short out if the internal battery leaks. I replaced the siren and the problem was solved!!!
Now unfortunately one key works perfectly. The second works to start the ignition but same as before needs to be held near door handles or rear antenna to open the doors??? Real mystery!!!
I was hoping to avoid going to a shop to reprogram it and possibly find out it's a defective fob. I tried all suggestions to reprogram the key myself with no luck.
I am resigned to the fact that I have to seek professional help to reprogram my my key or buy a new one.
I called a mobile locksmith service in my area and he said "Mercedes is Dealer Only"? Having had bad experiences, "Mercedes Dealers" are the last place I want to visit $$$$!!!!
Any suggestions or is the mobile locksmith right?
I live in Westchester County, NY.
Thanks in advance!
