Default 2002 C320 troubles

I have owned my 2002 C320 for three years without a single problem. The car has 56,000 miles and I change the oil/filter twice a year using Mobil 1 syn. Recently when driving on the interstate the car began to jerk as if it was running out of fuel and the check engine ligth came on. I got error codes for multiple cylinder misfires and 2 different cylinder misfires. I cleared the code, changed plugs and wires, put in a fresh tank of gas and took it for a drive. The car made a noise that I would descibe as driving on a rough road with the same vibrations. It did this (only occasionaly) when the gas pedal was lightly pushed down (going about 35mph). If I let of the gas or "punched it" it seemed to stop. I then took the car on the interstate and the jerking that I noticed the first time started againthe CEL came on around 70mph. Itook it home and now I am getting a cylinder6 misfire.Nolocal shops can get a reading on the car and the nearest dealer is 4 1/2 hours away and I do not want to damage anything driving the carthat far. A few things to note : I do live in a cold climate and the car stays in storage for 6 months a year (I do start it from time to time in the winter). The car was a trade out of Arizona. I do not know if this has anythingto do with the problem but I wanted to list as much info as possible. One of my local shops did suggesttrying fuel injector cleaner but I thought I read in the manual that this is not safe for the engine. I have also read it could be the MAF, fuel filter or EGR.....Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Anything new on your car? How's the condition of your battery? These cars need a good solid charge in the battery to properly boot up the computer on start. The way you describe your usage it could a low voltage on startup. If you've had it for three years I'm sure it's a new problem and not a carryover from its history or past use. Unfortunately, there's no substitute for a diagnosis from Mercedes. You know what you're doing if youchanged wires and plugs, so don't take offense, but try and see if the battery can be opened, and check the water level too. Those other things you mentioned shouldn't show up in just 56,000 miles. It's usually something simple, regardless of the doom-sayers.

Given the symptoms, you might consider a fuel filter as well as gas tends to get gummy and varnishy when it sits for more than 30 days without a fuel stabilizer.Regards,Will

Hopper,

I own a 2002 C320 as well. Just had some similar issues.Thank goodness for the extended warranty. After a new MAF, big difference.

Go to your local auto parts store, by some MAF cleaner for <$10. Try that first, if it works, far out! If not, search this forum a bit more, try other MB forums, then consider shopping on line for a new MAF.

Best of luck,
Al
