Default 2001 C240 - Replace fuel pumps for $1,665?

I have a 2001 Mercedes C240, about 140K miles. A couple of nights ago, I was switching gears coming home it wouldn't engage in certain gears (or couldn't get the fuel necessary, don't know the terms) but I was able to make it home. The next day when I tried to start the car, it just sputtered and died. I got it towed to a Mercedes shop in West LA (not dealer) and was quoted $1,665. Does that sound about right? I'm not a DIY guy so that's not an option but maybe other places can do it for less or I can get the parts and bring them to an independent shop? I'm leaning towards just having them do it but don't really know my options and was hoping to get some input.

They said I had to replace 2 fuel pumps with the following breakdown:

Fuel pump assembly w/-N $314
Fuel tank sender assemb-N $558
Fuel sender seal-N ($29 x 2) $58
Relay-N $37
Fuel filter-N $64

Parts: $1,031
Labor: $541
Tax: $93

Total: $1,665

Thanks!

Cost of parts seems a bit high, but labor is right around what it should be. I don't think you're getting a 'bad' deal - you may be able to save $100 or so elsewhere, but it seems correct. Other members should confirm.
