1999 C240 starting cycle prob!

Hi all,

Just a quick question. I have a UK spec 1999 Merc C240. When i turn the key and try and start the engine it only fires over 2 turns then stops suddenly. If i hold the key it will repart this every 5 seconds or so. somtimes it will take 20 or 30 attempts before the engine fires over and starts up. I doesnt do it every time. say 4 out 5 times.

Any ideas what this could be?

If it does it 1 more time outside my girlfriends house im gonna put a pickaxe through the screen and burn it out.

Thanks

Andy

I sympathise,my 240 takes a long time to start too.Ihave been struggling for a month now and no one seems to know what the problem is.Eventually I will have to take it to the dealer at £100 an hour.If I cure mine I will let you know what they find.

it sounds more like starts and stops, while the key is on start position then check the car battery you should have 12v if its less than 12v replace battery,if battery ok than its the k40 relay playin up which will be found on the left fuse box under the bonnet,it as a connector with a purple wire........
