Please help me, my lovely reliable 01 c220 recently began making an awful ticking noise - it sounds a bit like a tractor . It began after a long spin on the motorway at quite a speed - but is still running fine, I had a mechanic friend look at it and he had a good look but couldn't see any problem. Its very annoying but doesn't seem to affect the cars performance as I have done plenty of miles on it since . If anyone has come across a similar problem I'd be very interested to know how it was resolved. Thanks in advance.

 

A mechanic could not figure it out in person? Bring it to somebody else. Your problem could be any of many issues. Trying to diagnose a sound on the internet is difficult at best.

Suggest you check the oil and do not drive it until you get it towed to shop for diagnosis or have a mechanic stop by.
