’98 C230 Low Beam Bulb Replacement

This is a general information post on replacing the bulbs on a '98 C230. I've seen information on the forum about newer models but nothing on older modelC-class. Anyway, this was my experience.</P>

After removing the plastic covering that houses the lights, look for the low beam bulb connection (centered, more or less). Remove theelectrical connection by wiggling it gently back and forth. This exposes the two prongs on the back of the bulb. </P>

If you have a pair of Jersey gloves, put them on at this point. There is a metal clamp that holds the bulb in place, to remove it push in and to the right (passenger side), or left (driver's side). The clamp should spring loose. The catch for the clamp is at the top, and it may take a minute and some experimentation to pop it off. I had to move around to the driver's side and get a good light under there to see it.</P>

Remove the bulb and carefully take out a fresh one (H7 55W). Be careful to handle the bulb by its metal base and not touch the glass of the bulb. Insert the new bulb with the flat side of the base toward the hood. Refasten the electrical connection with the part number on the plastic insulationalso toward the hood. It shouldlock with a satisfying snap. </P>

Turn the lights on to test the connection. If thebulb still doesn't work there are several possible problems, including reversed connection, faulty bulb, or an electrical/wiring failure. If the replacement was a succees, snapthe clamp back into place, and replace the plastic housing.</P><edited><editID>GJ23</editID><editDate>38027.7781712963</editDate></edited>

I followed your instructions and I was successful in replacing the passenger side low beam headlight on a 2005 C230 . It was easy thanks to you.
Thank you.
