Sorry for cross posting this, if you've already seen it.
I have a new to me, 03 SL55. Great car, with a few little bugs. Right now the most annoying one is a pretty distinct rattle in the folding top. The rattle is coming from the front of the top, right at the front seam. It's noticable when going over any bumps or even cornering. The top seems to fit nice and snug; no water or air coming in and the seam from the outside is nice and strait and level. My plan is to pull the inner liner lose so i can see in the area and try and figure out if something is lose or ? I'd appreciate any suggestions, warnings or thoughts before I get myself in trouble.

just open it up until it goes back a bit and then use some thick grease or vaseline and put it on both sides of the roof latches. above the winshield and also on the hardtop where the 2 latches meet. while you have the top open lube all the points of the roof and the seal slightly.

 

I appreciate the suggestion. I'll give it a try before doing anything else. I'm a bit skeptical only because the sound has a pretty serious note to it, more than I'd normally expect from rubbing parts.
On the other hand, i've been in and out of enough mechanical stuff to realize you can never be sure of noises.
I'll take a shot this weekend and see what happens.
