park position sticks

on my 2004 SL55 AMG recently the gear selector has taken to getting stuck in park. More so if the car is parked downhill, worse when hot.
A precursor of trouble?

Have had any number of cars do this in the past. Try setting the emergency brake before placing the engine in park. Takes the pressure off the pawl?
