Hey guys... I am new to the benz world and need a little advice. I am considering a 2001 CLK 55 AMG with only 21,200 miles on it. The price is $29,000. Is this a good car? Consumer reports does not treat it so kindly. Is this a car to avoid, amg motors? Should I make sure to get an extended warranty? Is there other years that are more reliable? Stuff like that! Thanks in advance for any help!

I would definitely ignore the critics, MB has always had some of the best maintanence track records in auto industry. As you probably already know, AMG is simply MB's racing division. So, with that said, I would certainly believe that MB would not, absolutely not make a mistake like, producing a handbuilt engine to place it on the market knowing that it included problems. These cars take 8mos. on order to get one. Yes that is a steal of a deal, low mileage, and great price! Good Luck.

p.s. you should always purchase an extended warranty, anything, and everything man made has the opportunity to fail.

 

01 CLK55 is a great car. As CL55 stated, get the extended warranty. It will save you more in the end.

 

I too have the opportunity to acquire an 01 CLK55 (BRABUS) 43K miles for $30K. The issue that I have is the Aftermarket warranty . I was really BURNED by HERITAGE on my 996 Carrera. So a little gun shy. Any ideas or suggestions of another REPUTABLE company?
