Default Mercedes E55 in the snow?

I am going to buy a new vehicle and was thinking about an 05 E55 but I am worried about how it will be in the snow. I understand the whole RWD idea in the snow but certain cars are just terrible in the snow. Have you driven any of your AMG's in the snow? How do they do? We have a very long and heavy winter up here.

Depends on where you live. If you live where there is only like an inch of snow on the ground then ya you could use it. If you live where I do(Upstate NY)Forget about that then. No way an E55 would be good there. One year before I put my cars away I had an emergancy and had to drive my 2002 E320 in the snow(Just once) and I had a hard time. E320 is only 230bhp and had trouble. Imagine what 469bhp would be like.

That is what I was worried about, I live in Breckenridge, CO so we have a lot more than an inch of snow at a time, sometimes more than a foot. It looks like it is going to have to be an E550 4-matic after all.

Thats a good choice also. They are a quick car also. Not as fat as the AMG but you can always do modifactions

I have an E63. I put Michelin Pilot Sport Alpin tires on my stock 18" rims last winter. I drove in the snow (about 5") with no problem. The car was very balanced, and I got through some tough icy spots with no problem. But of course, it's the other guy on the road that I was most worried about.

But I only have a 5 mile commute to work, so I left for work early, just so I was one of a few on the road. But as far as feel and balance, the car did fine, when equipped for the snow. These cars are all over Germany in their harsh winters.

An E55 will do no better or worse than a regular E. Even a 70 HP Smart will have trouble if you are missing two things. One: a proper set of four winter tires; Two: The common snese required to drive a rear wheel drive car in adverse conditions.
If you have both of these, your rear wheel drive car will behave like a tank and willbe fun to drive in most winter conditions. The ESP and traction control will keep the backend in line.
Be gentle on the gas, take it slow and drive for the conditions and youshould be fine.

I would suggest purchasing a g500 for the snow.
