Cant get my SL55 out of park

I own a SL55 2004 and I was away on a trip about 300 miles from my home when it started doing this, I was able to vigourlsy shake the stick several times until finally I couldn’t not get it in gear, I had to have the car flat bedded to a dealer 45 miles away, he removed the knob and hit it with a sledge hammer to release it, so I could at least get it back home,

Does this mean I have to replace the Electronic Selector Module? Or is it the light?

And if I have to replace it, does it have to be done my Mercedes, my warranty expired so you know how they rape you

Shift Leve

Mike,

The dealer does not have to replace it. However, each lever is program to the car so it requires programming. It will sent you back for the whole thing about 1100.00...happened to my CL55 AMG....Good luck..

chaseturbo is incorrect unfortunately. Because you have a late model "SL" 230 chassis vehicle, the dealer must replace the shifter now. As of nov 2008, mercedes implemented a "Theft Relevant Part" program where any part that is related to the theft and some safety deterrent systems must be programmed/installed at the dealership. This includes keys/EIS/Shifter (for 220/215/230 chassis vehicles)/some srs components/etc. This is mandatory of all dealers now, sorry.

01 slk230 can't get out of park

Hey MBTECHINFO, I need your smartness!! I could be wrong but I think it is the button you push to lock your car so no one can tow it away. The top of the button pushes in but the bottom won't. I have gotten it our of park by taking my finger and playing with that black piece of plastic right around the shift lever. Do you think it could be stuck because of that button?

I appreciate any help you can give.
