Andrew,
drive a 'regular' model E500, S500 or SL500 (which are all great cars as well) and then drive the same again with an AMG version of any of this models....
You'll not ask anymore why!
To give you a little hint: It's (at least in my case) not the design making the difference

 

12 SECONDS IN THE QUARTER MILE...

 

Although the design is great, I think most people spend the extra 15k+ for the performance of an AMG vehicle

 

I went from an 03 BMW M3 loaded as well as installed the Dinan S2 package that enhanced the horse power to 360. And after driving the E55 and blowing away the M3 as well as the Porche C4 how could I not fall in love with this beast of a sedan that has the power of a freak of nature and the safety of a Mercedes

 

Besides all the power it's a beautiful car. Compare our e55's to other cars and the e55 blows them away in looks in addition to power. Add some options like solar panels, a nav, xenon lights and the whole package is very hard to beat.

It is a polite, sexy beast.

 

I test drove a 1999 E55 ///AMG (44,000 miles)at the dealership one day and i thought it was one of the most amazing cars ever. Its extremly powerfull, safe and reliable and has more options then a corvette and can almost perform like one.
