1980 300D Mystery - Please help
Hi Everyone
I have a 1980 mercedes 300d with a greasecar kit I've been driving for about a year. I took into the shop the other day to have the starter replaced. When I got it back I noticed that it shifts very rough now, reving quite high and then shifting hard. It had no transmission issues before going into the shop. Is there some way replacing the starter could effect the transmission? Could they have knocked something loose, like a vacuum line? Where should I look and how should I diagnois? I really don't want to take the car back to them.
thanks

You're on the right track regarding vacuum leak. If your car has a vacuum modulator, then , yes that hose might have been knocked off. Also many of the vacuum hoses are just next to the oil filter. very common to dislodge one in changing the filter. Look there first. My 81 has a modulator on the passenger side of the trans. A hose passes over the bell housing from the driver side by the oil filter and connects to the modulator.
