Default Vibration

Hi there, i have a 2005 Merc E200 1.8 Auto. Lately when i have my foot on the brake and the car in either Drive or Reverse the car makes some strong vibrations. This problem is particularly worse when the engine is cold. The problem eases greatly after it has been driven for a while. There are no problems at all when the car is driving. It is only when parked and in gear and it does not happen in park or neutral. My mechanic has just looked at it and seems to think it is a Transmission clutch pack problem but is not sure and says to take it to a dealership which will cost a fortune. Anyone have any ideas what may be wrong?? Thanks Sean

Thanks for your reply. I had done a little research online and most of the pointers were as you say towards the Motor and Transmission mounts but my mechanic says they are fine. Problem is way worse when car is started from cold and nearly vanishes after a good long drive. Have noticed also when the car is cold that when its put into drive it sort of jerks a little and this problem also eases when the car has been driven for a while. Car is just fully serviced and had transmission fluid changed.

Thanks

Sean
