Unwanted heat

After driving for ½ hour with the AC on I turned on the windshield defroster. Instead of cold air, it blew out hot to the windshield and both side vents. It took a minute or so to return to normal when defrost was turned off. It would also do this when temperature setpoint was lowered to 65º F. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem? Thanks

RE: Unwanted heat

Hi,

My "logic" tells me that this is what is supposed to happen!

Why did you put the "screen defrost" on?
Screen Defrost requests hot air to the screen and possibly over rides whatever other settings have been entered.

If your screen "misted up" due to excess humidity then you don't need heat to the screen but increased air volume.
If this was the issue then are you sure you did not have recirc selected since this allows the recirc air within the cabin to become saturated with water vapour and any inside to outside temp difference can cause the water to precipitate out onto the screen.

However, not being familiar with your model I may be totally wrong and maybe your vehicle has only just started doing this issue.
What does the Handbook say regarding Screen Defrost button?

Stuart.

RE: Unwanted heat

'Defrost' automatically overrides climate control settings and pumps maximum temp air at windshield and side vents. That's what it is supposed to do. Only needed to clearfrost or ice from windshield.
