Unknown engine Serial number
 

Dear All,

I recently bought a land rover series 1 with a non original diesel engine in it. The seller told me it was a mercedes diesel engine.
I was wondering if anyone could help me track down the engine serial number, to determine what kind of engine it is, and if it has any value.
It is a 7 digit serial number starting with 7005xxx.
Is anyone familiar with this code? its probably from an older diesel engine, as it is fitted on a gearbox from 1971.

These links should help. Should be able to find the engine code on the side or rear of the engine block, likely parallel to the firewall and/or above the bell housing.

I managed to find the engine code, it was on the front right side near the exhaust manifold. however I cant find what type of engine it is, and for what vehicle its made. the number is: 7005385
.

Anything on the engine that looks like these plates? I'm pretty sure there's gotta be more to that number.
