I recently purchased a very nice 1984 SE 380 (150k miles). Yesterday morning (temp was approx 38F) my car would not shift out of 1st gear as I left my driveway. I drove for several blocks then manually manipulated the shifter through the rangesseveral times. This action would shift the transmission andshortly the trans began to shiftnormally. Has anyone had this experience and what is the end result. Also, I have begun to look into changing thetrans filter and fluid. From this forum, I find recommendations for only using MB fluid. However, thethreads and posts I foundwere addressing newer cars.Should I use only MB fluid or can I use a good brand name fluid from Auto Zone, O'Reilly, Advance etc.? And, if so, what kind - Dextron??

I just noticed that I listed my car's model incorrectly. Of course, it should be 1984 380SE.
