tranny problem

Hi guys hope you can help. Ive also got a 928 s4 1991 with a transmission problem. Ive been told they merc boxes, hence my post. When cold the tranny is perfect, goes into gear with normal split second delay. After about 30 minutes of driving its starts slipping when i take off or slow down and accelerate again, i have to shift down or rev harder to get into gear. I know by box is sick, but how sick? I need advice if this is very bad or can be fixed without having to get a second mortage. In other words i dont want to get sucked in by an ambitious mechanic. Thanks for reading my post.

At the very least I would change the fluid and filter and be sure to drain the torque convertor too. I have cured many a trans problems by doing that. but at least you would know.
