Default Suspension problems new E Class

Has anyone heard of any new E Class models with suspension problems? I have a new E 280 D which has an awful clanking noise in the front and rear suspension. Mercedes admit there were some problems with the old model but claim the latest car has a new suspension system. The noise which is like a rattle is noticeable over all surfaces. The dealer claims there they can find no problem - (Mercedes Dundee) - and despite the car being only two months old are refusing to replace it.

Has anyone heard of any similar problems?

With thanks

Roger

Hi Roger,

You say CLANKING noise.

Is this repeatable / demonstrable to the dealer or is it a problem that disturbs yourself and they can't find / experience the problem.

If the dealer had experienced the CLANK then I find it hard to believe that they haven't given you a loan car and are conciensiously trying to find the problem however i would have expected repair within two days (getting parts). Maybe the car was purchased thru a "Car Supermarket" and not a main dealer?

You state they have had the car and if this is a UK main dealer then I'm pretty sure that they will have ensured nothing has inadvertently been left loose during manufacture etc.

New vehicle or ex demo etc?

What wheel tyres has the car got on it? Are the tyre pressures correct for your load and speed condition?

Is the clanking just on bad roads i.e. potholes etc?

If it "CLANKS" then there is something wrong...Exhaust maybe but if your definition of "CLANK" is basically "THUMP / muted CRASH this may be down to low profile tyres (if fitted) and you are unfamilar with the different compromise between RIDE / NOISE / HANDLING / Etc. and that on your previous car. Does the problem occur on well surfaced roads like a motorway. If so when does it occur?

Very difficult to respond without actually experiencing the noise. This may also be the dealers problem.

What were you driving previously?

Stuart

Dear Stuart

Thanks for your helpful reply. I bought a new Eclass two years ago. This vehicle spent 10 days at the Salisbury dealership and another week at the Bath Merc dealership. They were trying to identify and cure a nagging repetitive low level nock from the suspension. They were both unsuccessful. I soldiered on with the car however, when I saw that the latest Eclass boasted a new suspension I presumed Mercedes had attended to the now widly known problem. So, I decided to buy one. Unwisely I did not ask for a test drive believing the problem would be sorted. Sad to say I not only have precisely the identical noise problem but also a more pronounced bump when driving over e.g. a road hump. I live in Bath but the car was supplied by Mercedes of Dundee. (too long a story) I took the vehicle to the Bristol dealership, 3 technicians drove it, the after sales manager describing it as horrendous. I then returned it to Dundee and rejected it. They say the car is absolutely fine and there is nothing wrong with it! In light of the Scottish dealers comments Customer Care will take no action despite having been telephoned with a full description by the guys in Bristol. The new noise is marked, while the noise I suffered with the original and this car is just continually ****ling. Currently I am without a car and rather up the creek without a paddle. I really do not want this vehice back, an expensive blunder at almost £37000! Roger

i never heard such noise/rattle on such model.

technicians should easily be able to locate the source.

strip the car, re-torque nuts and bolts, and locate if it is from inside, outside or underneath.

they are not competent.
