Probably mywife's car has caught a piece of garbage from the road, and now it is trapped between the chasis and the drive shaft. it could be as simple as that.

 

Have a good look at the firewall for missing grommets

Missing grommets where would I find info on what grommets are supposed to be there ? I got a CD off ebay but it is real S$#@ didn't give any useful info .... made by Mitchell . I don't have access to a lift or a garage for that matter and being disabled kind of puts a damper on jacking it up on 4 bottle jacks but I will have to try. There doesn't seem to be much free info on MB cars on line or I just don't know where to look. Any pointers are welcome so don't hesitate to send them. I did the self diag. on the AC system and came up with a 416 with a small o between the 1+6 it is the Coolant Circulation Pump ??? are they talking about the water pump or is there a different pump somewhere on this car ???

I will have to look under it to see if there is anything causing the noise I want to change the oil and can't seem to find the filter any sugestions on what type of oil or additive to use ??? And what type of bulb lights up the odom. it does not light up ? I still have to find out how to pluu the instrument cluster before I end up taking the dash out one piece at a time.

NOTE: When pulling, press the extractor hooks outwards at an angle of about 120° in order to prevent them slipping off, don't try to pull on both extractor hooks at the same time. Work them back and forth.

I found it ..................................


Jacked the car up last night around 11m .... It was an unusually warm night. Started looking for anything that could be touching the drive shaft. I could only see a small section of shaft at each end the exhaust shield covers most of the shaft ...... I put the car in N and started turning the shaft by hand ....... BINGO right at the trans tail shaft was a small piece of what used to be a cell phone mount pushing down on the heat shield tapping the universal bolt ever so slightly but just enough to make a tap as it hit each bolt ....... bent it out of the way .... problem solved

Doesn't anyone wonder whether someone was holding that cell phone when a piece of it got caught under Mywifescar?

 

The funny thing about this problem was no one ever sat in the passenger side seat or rear seats of this car. Everyone has heard of the little old lady that only drove the car to church on Sunday store but in this case it was true ! She had the original floor mats with the drivers side covered with plastic. The door jams and under the hood had no signs of use ( no leaves or road dirt in the usual spots) She owned 2 cars one (this one) for work and a convertible for after work . The car went from her garage to her works garage to the dealer for all the services in the owners manual and back to her garage. I didn't believe it myself until this problem came up by me sitting in the passenger seat. And you may ask why did she sell it ....... her father gave her a new one. I wish I was so lucky but all in all it is a great car for the money. And this is a great site for info. Thanks everyone for their input.
