Story about Mercedes engineers putting a BMW engine into a prototype
Hey guys,
I was hoping someone could help me reference an article (in Car and Driver or Motortrend) I remember reading a while ago (in the 1990's) about Mercedes. The story described some friction between Mercedes engineers and their executives. The engineers wanted their executives to invest in developing more sporty engines; the executives thought the engines were just fine. One day, the engineers invited the executives down to the track to test drive a new prototype. The executives raced around in the new car and really enjoyed it. They were amazed at how smooth and sporty the engine was. When they got back, the engineers lifted the hood and showed the executives the engine - it was a BMW engine that they had transplanted into a Mercedes chassis. The executives immediately approved the budged needed for new engine development. I know it's a long shot, but does anymore remember a story like this? Thanks! Eric. |

I'd check Snopes. That has urban legend all over it.
You've heard about the broken Rolls-Royce crankshaft? |
