Steering wheel column

I have a 1997 E320. When my car is out in the heat, the sleeve on the steering column between the steering wheel and dashboard becomes loose and will rotate when I use the turn signal. Would I have to take the steering wheel off to fix this problem? If so, I can live with the problem.
