serp belt how to?
 

i had a different question posted earlier, but I've found out the main issue, please read the third post in the thread....thanks for any help anyone is able to give me in the next 24 or so hours!

This may be totally unrelated!

When all those things happened to me in my old Toyota Corolla, it turned out to be a bad alternator. The battery was being sucked dead which caused the computer to start shutting down everything. Again, could be a coincidence too.

i forgot to mention this...so i popped the hood and found what pretty much amounts to as a shredded serp. belt...which is very convient for a guy who doesn't know how to replace it and it's a saturday where no repair shops of any reputation are open (I made several phone calls)...does anyone happen to know the exact steps required to get a new serp. belt onto my car? take me from opening the hood to closing the hood if you can - what all do I need to remove, etc.

Since you have to replace the aux fan anyway, It would be easier to remove the four bolts in the top radiator brace, then lean the radiator forward some where you can work on it, and replace the belt too. There is a tensioner adjustment, for tighterning the belt; use a ratchet to tighten the new belt snug. I think the path of the belt is in your owners manual. Either way, you can tell which way the belt goes around the pully, by the type of pulley.

thanks for the help, I'm glad I didn't have the cojones to do it myself though...needs a couple of pullies, springs and tentioner replaced...the shop is doing it today for me, which i hate cause I didn't want to spend so much on this ancient vehicle


how long should it take a good shop to make a repair like this?
