Hi all benz boys!!!
I have and lov my benz s500 but have suffered with floor pan vibration it seems forever, the car has aftermarket wheels 21 and 19 inch resp fitted when i bought the car. I have had the following done so far -

Drive shaft baring and mount replaced just last week and pads replaced £367
Ball joint and baring tightened £160
new tyres Mitchelin Pilot sports on the front £365
Dunlops to the rear £370
Tie rod replaced £130
wheel straightening slight 1 -2 mm toe out £200 not quite purfect but there is no such thing as a perfectly round car wheel thats what balacing is for right??
I am as you can imagine at a loss and find after all that the floor still vibrates at anything over 70mph drive through it at arounf 95 its ok but normally associated with rear wheel balance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello and welcome to the forum! From the brief research that I did on this, it seems that this is a very common problem with the S500 - take a look at the response below from another forum member, it seems to make sense:
"The problem is the "harmonic balancer" or the "belt tensioner" or it could be both. Both of these are part of the belt assembly in front of the engine. The harmonic balancer is like a belt but with two metal parts sandwich a middle rubber part and the belt tensioner could be loose (actually it was a faulty part originally and needs to be replaced). Unfortunately, MB does not cover them after the warranty period. It cost me $600 for the harmonic balancer and $450 for the belt tensioner. Hope this help."

To be honest the lack of help from Mercedes UK has been dismal, they really dont want to know, there answere is always get the car to MBZ and spend silly money on diags, e.g £140 phr !!! really I will always spend in the right places but I wont through money away at an main agent...bonkers.

I was in the same situation with my BMW a while back; luckily I found an independent mechanic that ended up being amazing and will be my go-to for every car I'll ever own. I would pose a question to the community about recommendations for an indy mechanic around you - I'm sure people will recommend a few shops.
