Reading codes

Hi All,
I've got a 1994 E420. I was shown how to retrieve the codes for the check engine light. Does anyone know of where I can retrieve the info on how to calculate what they mean?

;)Hi - if they are OBDII codes - I can probably tell you what they mean - do you know the numbers?

I held down the red button in the sequence of 3 seconds then 8 seconds, the light gave me three codes 9 flashes, 17 flashes, and 3 flashes, does that make any sense?

The only code i could get to come up was 9 and it said that it was a transmission valve block- malfunction. is that good?

RE: Reading codes

9) Starter signal or pressure actuator

17) Throttle switch - idle speed control valve, CAN signal for BOSCH LH4.1 ECM

3) Coolant temperature sensor (CTS) 2 or circuit

I have E320 1995 model. I presume your car is also having the same connector which is in my car. So the link which i have given above shows the above problems in your car. (As you had mentioned aboout code number 9/17/ and 3)
