by-pass oil filter question
 

I have an '05 Chevy truck with a 5.3 V-8 and I am so particular with maintenance on all my vehicles. The oil change interval is 7500 miles but the filter on this engine is about the size of a baseball. Has anyone had any experience with Amsoil by-pass filter or useing a filter relocation kit where I can use the larger filter? Thanks in advance

GM has been using those smaller filter canisters for many years now. I wouldn't worry about effectiveness, especially since you religiously change the oil and filter. However, I would change the oil every 3000-5000 miles if it were my truck. I'd go above 5000 only if the oil were synthetic.

Besides, if you do some research, I believe you'll find that the modern, smaller filter canisters have more filtering ability than the older coffee can-sized filters.

I agree about the smaller filter and shortening the change interval as I have just over 200k miles on my 1998 350 chevy truck engine. Somewhere I read that the small filters all filter down to a particular micron level but there are some better grade of small filters that have a lower micron filtering capability. The downside of any filter is the wrong wieght of oil for the ambient temperature causing a bypass mode to occur until the oil warms up enough to thin out.
