Parktronic not working s-class

I have a 2000 s-class and the front parktronic works fine however the rear does not. As it says in the manual when it does not work you get the red segemnts and a tone. I found one of the rear sensors pushed in the hole and it had a large scratch across the lense. As a test I took a piece of masking tape and taped over a front sensor to see if it would give me the same red segements as the rear. When I put it in drive I did not get the malfunction indicator of the red segment and tone for hte front. Could the sensor I found pushed in and scratched cause the rear to be inop

Thanks for any help

if just a scratch, no. but if it was subjected to shock then it will be faulty.

check the connector behind the sensor. it must have come off.

tip:

with ignition on and shift lever to P, you can feel with the tip of your finger if the sensor is defective or not.

slide the tip of your finger back and forth on the sensor's face and you can feel some magnetic reaction from the sensor. if it doesn't have, the sensor is defective.
make sure your finger is clean and dry and no callouse.

I tried it and the front ones seem to have that "magnetic" feeling but none of hte rear ones do. If one sensor in the rear is out will all go out?

Thanks for your help

if one sensor goes out, you only need to replace that sensor with a new one.

yes because the control unit shuts them down.

Thanks so much for the info. After I replace the sensor will I have to clear any codes to make it work or will it be good to go.
