hi , im new to this mercedes forum, .................. can any 1 please tell me, my mercedes 300 SE has been standing in my driveway for the past 2 1/2 years,i recently found out that u shud drain the oil otherwise it may become to acidic over time .
i have done this, but i was unable to change the spark plugs and oil filter let alone the air filter, the car has covered 186,000 miles for a 1988 model. When i drained the oil, i found the cap was hard to unscrew, but when i managed to get it unscrewed i found it had somekinda of cream sludge under neath the cap...... i hope it is nothing serious, and i pray that i dont incur any unexpected expenses, can any 1 tell me why it was like that ?????

 

it is from the blowby gasses in combustion chamber.

if the positive crankcase ventilation valve is working fine... then you got a worn out piston rings, valve seals, or both.

your engine will start to burn/consume oil. sparkplugs will get fouled with oil, valve surface will become dirty and engine will start to do a bit of rough idle.

 

Why did you park the car in the first place? Did it break down or just didn't need it anymore?

 

no, i stopped taking my mercedes to work, where i work there are too many parking bays, many people comeby and hit it from front and behind let alone scratching it ... really kills my heart, i cherish my mercedes alot.! thats why i stopped taking it to work, for why i bought a cheap a little FORD ESCORT where any 1 who wants to hit my car now they can take their best shot,- i dont care ! i kept it in the driveway, but i dont have time to keep it on the road,since now i most of times i take the ESCORT wherever i go ! my 300 is a ultimate disguised classic... pictures will be published soon !

I would have the engines flushed by a pro to get as much as the sludge out as I can. Some people also remove the oil pan or pans and clean that with a solvent. Also, Sleepwalker advice is excellent have the crankcase vent valve checked. Leting a car sit for that long a time without driving it, or litte driving is not good. If if wasn't driven at all you should have prepared it for "storage" there are some treads, I think on this board on storing a car for a long time. Also I would have the FI system professionals cleaned and if you didn't drain the fuel I would have the tank flushed out, and put fresh fuel. Also, the next time you have or change the oil yourself, buy a small magnet as close to the size as the end of the oil plug. glue it on the plug, the part the goes inside the pan. Use a good epoxy glue, scuff the surface of the both the plug and magnet, this will draw any particles of metal from the engine and pan when running. Plugs are available with a magnetic tip, but I have never found one for my C Class.

 

Leaving a car sit is probably the worst thing you can do to it. Specially if you live in a humid environment.

I would do as Sleepwalker and C280 said.....

Then either prep it for storage before it's stored again, or take it out and run int more often.
