Default new with mercedes..

Hi guys..

I'm the recent recipient of a 93 400E sportline. the care is in excellent shape, inside and out. It runs great, except on initial cold start-ups. for about 15 seconds it surges at idle, then runs normal. so far the only thing I've done is clean the throttle body with no effect. has anyone delt with this concern? what am I looking at for repairing it?

Thanks in advance for any input.

wiring harness breaks down and the insulation comes off the wires.

You need a complete wire harness (engine harness). OR if youre really mechanically inclined try removing the harness and rebuilding it.

Default Engine Harness

Do not try to make a harness, you need to bit the bullet and replace part # 124-440-19-06

Just wondering.. How does the harness cause this concern only on initial startup? It idles great till you let it sit..

the harness was just a common issue , doesnt mean its the problem. but if you do have a brittle and cracked wire harness youll see it almost all over the harness. usually more noticable close to where the harness plugs in to something. if you go to a dealer they will tell you to take care of the harness before replacing something else. because a bad harness can cause many problems. i dont have an answer for you on your cold start issue. im not very knowlegable on those engines, i believe its a 119 motor. the wire harness problems were mostly on the inline 6 cylinder engines the 104 motors. but also the 119 do have that same issue but not as much.

Thanks. I just started looking over the harness and everything looks new. The harness from the engine controller and the harness to the throttle body. All the wires look great.
