Hi there. I'm really close to purchasing a very nice 1985 300td. I was told that the neutral safety switch needs to be replaced so the car only starts in neutral. Does this sound correct? Could it be something else? Is this a fix that I can probably perform easily?

1985 300d was occasionally not starting in park but always starting in neutral, now 90% not starting in park. Do you still think I should start with changing the bushings on the shifter linkage or go for the switch? And what is involved in changing bushings and switch? This change happened in about 3 weeks time.
