Need a "Code Reader" or "Auto Scanner"

I don't know what to get. I went to Actron.com & read up on their units. It seems that the Auto Scanners are more costly but also more sophisticated than the Code Readers. What do you recommend I buy to diagnose my 99 E320 sedan?

Thanks,

RE: Need a "Code Reader" or "Auto Scanner"

I bought the model Actron CP9145. It works on my CLK and our Honda too.
It checks the "globasl obd2" codes and displays live engine readings, but does not have access to the A/C codes and some others I haven't identified yet. I'm generally happy with it so far. It prevented me from buying O2 sensorsonce by mistake, and pinpointed a couple of annoying "check-engine" problems. Sometimes I'll clear the codes, and then drive around tosee if the same codes come back; they always have, so its pretty consistent so far.
Often the codes are vague, so you will still have to do some mechanic/detective work, but sometimes itnails the problemdirectly.good luck.

[8D]hi,
Harbor freight if you have one in your area, they have an obd2 with can/ for 39 or 49 bucks on sale with a cd for any codes no stored on the unit itself, reads shows codes resets and erases faults when you fix the offending part.
