Default NAVIGATION VOLUME

I just got a 2008 E350, and I'm confused about the volume setting for the Navigation system. I've read the manual, but am even more confused. The manual says that certain functions in the command center, such as the navigation system, have volumes that can be controlled separately. When one goes in the Nav system, and presses the soft key for settings, there is a soft key for New Nav Volume. However, rather than a standard volume control it has the choices of either minimal, minimum, maximum, or no FADE OUT. I'm not sure what this means. I assume it has something to do with the difference in volume level between the Nav system and the radio or CD. I want to lower the level of the Nav system. Which one of these, minimum or maximum fade will do that?

Furthermore, the manual says that this volume control will only work while an announcement is actually being made. And sure enough if I chose one of those settings when I'm stopped the system announces that the Navigational system is off. However, when the navigation system is operational, there is no volume soft key available. It doesn't show up. What kind of Catch 22 is that?

As I said, I'm confused and any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rex

Default RE: NAVIGATION VOLUME

when the nav voice is talking use the radio volume **** to turn up the voice when the voice is talking. there should be a soft key button that says nav volume then push the soft key and then you can adjust the volume. you might have to hit settings key when in the nav screen.
