ML Steering Column

I have a 2003 ML 350 with 57K miles and the steering column was a little loose and made some noise. Dealer took a look and recommended replacement of the steering column. In past 20 years I have owned four E-Class and this is my third ML and have never had nor ever heard of anyone having to replace a steering column. Dealer says there is no service bulletin on this and I am over the warranty. Anyone heard of this problem? Any suggestions would be apprecaited.

RE: ML Steering Column

I work for a MB dealer in the UK and we fitted 2 ML columns under warranty in the last 3 months so its not exactly an unknown failure. In the UK the manufacturers warranty is 3 years so if its the same where you are you need to get it sorted by the dealer, if not its worth approaching MB as here in the UK an out of warranty vehicle is sometimes repaired as a good will gesture sometimes in full sometimes on a part percentage basis.
