MB100 d 2001 Gearbox

Hi
The manual gearbox of myMB100 d 2001 needs to be replaced. I've found it 2nd hand from a 2001 petrol model.
My mechanic suggested that might have some compatibilty problem.
Does anyone ever did the same job?
