Key Problem - 1986 500 SL
My key is stuck in the ignition - in position 2 - it will turn clockwise from there but not back to zero so I can't remove it and the immobiliser prevents the engine from starting because it has to start from zero!
I think it may be the cable from the park position to the ignition switch but how do I locate it - does it come from the gear stick or on top of the gearbox and how do i remove the trim to get behind the ignition switch if the problem is that end.
Any advice will be much appreciated.

Hi,
Have you tried moving the gear lever out of "P" and back again incase it didn't quite engage in "P".
If this doesn't work then I agree with you analysis and would suggest that the gearbox position switch is out of adjustment.
I believe (not familiar with pree 1995 MB) that this will be connected electrically.
