ignition woes

Alright, forget the model or vintage....has anyone ever replaced an ignition cylinder for any model or year mercedes as the technology as displayed by the replacement part is circa 1912. Just a spring.

So, my questions are....would it be the top or the bottom pathway, yes, there are two holes that each line up, one on top and one on the bottom.

What would you use to hold the spring down?

Must one then turn the cylinder or just pull?

This is maddening.

Vexed by a piece of pot metal and a spring.

I need a drink.

Thanks everyone and anyone and especially the anyone who has the correct answer.

P.S. Bought the part from coolpartsonline and they are cool and a site sponsor. No shipping on orders over $35 or $40 and it was here in one day. Nice job.

RE: ignition woes

There is a tool for replacing a lock cylinder, its a .4 mm diameter wire about 20 cm long and bent into a "U" shape. The ends are beveled on the inside edge. You have to turn the old cylinder until the holes line up, position 1 I think, and then push the tool into both holes. The bevels will compress the spring and the whole works will fall out in your hand.
