How many quarts
My mechanic once told me,"The oil change was expensive because that car holds 13 quarts of oil", The car in question is a 1987 190d. Now I just changed it myself for the first time and I didn't put in anything close to 13qts. Was I being taking to the bank, or did I not do it properly. Unscrewed the plug, let it drain, and refilled.
Hi
Because I don't have your vin or engine number I cannot give you an accurate answer, but it should take between 6 and 8 liters. 13 quarts is way way too much. Do you have a dipstick? If you do then it's easy. Put in about 6 liters and run until at operating temperature, wait 5 minutes, then check the oil level on the dipstick and top up accordingly. You can repeat this step as many times as you like until the oil level is correct.

That's pretty much what I was doing, but I had initially put in too much, thats when I started to question what the heck was my $100.00 per hr.mechanic had told me. I had just thought that maybe because it was a diesel it took more oil(this is my first diesel powered car). Well all is good now oil level is where it should be, and I have oil left over for the next oil change. Thank you again for your input, I can't tell you how much it's appreciated.
