still looking for battery drain'84 300sd
I know a little more about the problem after asking a few stupid questions and doing some testing. I tried to find the problem in the usual way with a milliamp meter between the negative batt terminal and the cable by removing the fuses one by one ( in the fuse box and everywhere I could find one). without luck. I also removed the relays in the fuse box one by one and the strip fuse on top of the glow plug timer box. There is a pulsing drain on the battery with the key off . It's regular like a ticking clock. What devices on this car would generate a regular electrical pulse? Also I discovered that the diodes in the alternator are burned out. If I disconnect the alternator wires from the back of the alternator shouldn't that stop the drain if that's the problem? I did that and the drain is still there.Does anyone know where to safely download a shop manual for this car? Thanks.
