Help w/ OBDII code P1341 on '94 C220
 

So my check engine light came on recently, I went out and got an OBDII scanner and the code is P1341. I can't find any mercedes OBDII code listings for this #.

1994 C220 I4 engine, 109k miles no mods. Idle was a little squirrely before the light came on, and a few days before this I had to replace a fuel hose that was leaking all over the road. Car is driving fine though, MPG is the same.

I think that code is for the camshaft position sensor. It's a timing sensor.

If your car is a 1994, it's not OBDII. Where did you plug in an OBDII scanner?

Yeah I know 94's aren't supposed to have OBDII plugs but there are a few cars made in 94 and 95 that have them, the C220 included although supposedly it's not fully compliant. There's a plug under the driver's side dash, the OBDII scanner I got seemed to read my car just fine.

So the camshaft position sensor ... what would cause this code to pop up? Do I need to get the timing adjusted or do I need to replace the sensor?

I don't know. I don't even know if that's the correct definition of the code. P1000+ OBDII codes are manufacturer and sometimes vehicle specific.

The ECU controls the timing, so it just needs good sensors. To change the timing, you'd have to change the ECU programming.

If you clear the code, does it come back again?

I cleared the code, the check engine light hasn't come on since (I've driven it 3 times) and I'm not getting any codes with the code scanner so I guess it's OK ... ? We'll see if the light comes back on.

Hopefully, it was just an anomaly--which is "normal."

A normal anomaly? Sounds like a paradox. Sounds like Micorsoft Windows.

Close, but not quite.. P0341 is the cam position sensor, but he said P1341 which is actually the Adjustable camshaft timing solenoid. Like Mr_Man said there were several 1994 cars (Mercedes included) who put OBD-II in their cars. It was not until 1996 when it was federally mandated.


As far as the problem goes, it could have been a fluke. The computer doesn't actually have a way of directly testing the solenoid. What it does it look for changes in the other sensor patterns that would indicate that the timing is either advanced or retarded. If the problem reoccurs, then it could be that your solenoid is faulty
