well i went to lunch and when i started the car back up to go back to work the check engine light came on. can anyone tell me how to retrieve the codes anf how to clear them once the problem is fixed???

I might recommend that you help out by at least mentioning a model or chassis with your search for tech advice..In this case , even a year of manufacture would give a hint to which OBD system you have .
Seeing there are several answers to your generic question, it would result in you recieving a correct answer..
As a Tech, I won't even bother answering a post that gives me no info... mostly out of the fear of
giving you an answer that is incorrect due to me having to assume a model.
If they were all the same , fine... but they are not and , in fact, very different..
