headlights
What the heck are those bumps on the headlights for. They obstruct the sweeping motion of the headlight wiper. I have asked parts and service people about it and they don't know.

Where are these bumps?

I think he's (or she's) talking about those little nipple thingies on all headlights. I think they're the result of an injection molding process, but I'm just guessing.
They shouldn't be where the wipers sweep, though. The wipers probably need to be adjusted. |

RE: headlights
What model do you have. And what year?
I have heard of grooves being placed in windscreens to keep the rubber clean, but I have never seen it on headlights. |
RE: headlights
Something isn't right. Those nipples shouldn't be in the way. What's the body style of the car? Check the ailignment of everything. The wipers should not hit the bumps.

RE: headlights
Back in the old days, cars had nipples for alignment of the headlights, but they have been gone for years? Yes, how old is this car?
|
RE: headlights
Sounds like it's an early nighties or prior car.

RE: headlights
I wonder what you mean by "old days." My '95 SL has them. I doubt it was the last. Any sealed beam headlight has them. Halogen headlights, the most common headlight on modern cars, have them. The ones that don't are the projector-style headlights. They have smooth plastic lenses. They don't even have the diffuser ribs.
I've never heard of using those nipples for alignment. I'm very curious. Please explain how that was done. |
