FLAT TIRE REMOVAL
I'M TRYING TO REPLACE A FLAT TIRE. I TOOK OFF THE 5 NUTS AND THE TIRE IS SO STOBURN - WILL NOT COME OUT. I HELD IT ON BOTH SIDES, SHAKE IT & STILL NOT OUT.
I AM THINKING OF USING HEAVY JACK UNDERNEATH AND THEM USE A HEAVY RUBBER HAMMER TO HIT THE TIRE FROM THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE. MAYBE IT ONLY BEING STUBORN. IS THERE A TRICK TO GET THE TIRE OUT? THANKS GUYS |
RE: FLAT TIRE REMOVAL
KIck it Gomes, its just stuck.
But don't knock the car off the jack, of course. And when you put the rim back on, put some spray paint on the hub to keep it from corroding again. Charles |
RE: FLAT TIRE REMOVAL
If the wheels/hub are corroded badly and won't budge replace bolts but back them off ONE turn (so they are loose). Lower car to ground and careful move the vehicle forwards, backwards, steer lock to lock etc until seal is broken. Then jack up and have another go.
DO NOT DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY OR FOR MORE THAN A FEW YARDS WITH THE BOLTS LOOSE. Use Copperslip (anti seize compound) on the register surface. |
RE: FLAT TIRE REMOVAL
You do not have to kick or knock it from the inside out.
You can just kick it from outside. If you kick the bottom, the top will come out first. If you kick the top, the bottom will come loose. Simple. |
RE: FLAT TIRE REMOVAL
Thank you guys. I used a rubber hammer to knock the sides of the rim. The tire came out. I also use solvent to clean out the few rusts around.

RE: FLAT TIRE REMOVAL
Before you put the wheel (you call it tire) back onto the hub, clean up the all the contact
surfaces (back of the wheel and front of hub) with emery paper and then smear a very small amount of copperslip or anti seize grease onto the contact surfaces, so that you can get it off easily next time. Alloy wheels tend to corrode when in contact with steel hubs and this causes them to stick together. You need high temperature grease, like copperslip, to stop that. Allan |
RE: FLAT TIRE REMOVAL
Crickey, is the wheel off yet?
Good advice all around. I probably WOULD let you guys touch my car after all, if I was in a body-cast or something, and couldn't do it myself. lol Charles |
