That is the $64,000 question. It all depends on how long you want to replace defective parts. My experience with Mercedes cars I've owned from 82's to 2001's have been replacement of rubber parts, plastic parts, and general wear out parts like brakes, drive belts and tires. On my wife's 93 190E for example, I've had to replace the belt tensioner (rubber broke), belt tensioner shock (rubber mount came apart), front flex disk (rubber came apart), right rear sub-frame mounting kit (rubber came apart), several power window switches (plastic togglebreaks inside of switch), radiator (plastic tank on top hose connection cracked), windshield washer reservoir (plastic tank cracked), electric antenna (plastic tab on gear broke, I fabricated the old one with a metal tab).

I have found MB's to mechanically reliable but the inferior design of the plastic and rubber parts are a pain in the a... But I guess this is the norm for all new cars made today.
