Engine oil
 

I have a 1983 Mercedes D with approximately 150,000 miles on it (just got it). What type of oil would you recommend? 15w 40 or 20 50 or something else? I looked at the maint. Records and apparently they where using 20 50, since 1983. Should I continue using this or switch to synthetic or something else?


The engine does not seem to be burning oil. It has lots of power... Runs great. However when I started it for the first time the thing smoked for a while... I ran it and it eventually stopped smoking. Apparently, judging by the registration etc. it probably sat for a long time... Is it normal for a Mercedes that has sat for a while to smoke (a lot) after being started? I mean I felt as if I was going to smoke out the neighborhood.
