Engine noise
On my 95 e320, there seems to be a constant cricket noise coming from the front of the engine block, radiator, condensor area. It sounds when the car is hot, it's not so loud when idling or changing from "P" to "D," but once you're driving, either foward or reverse, it gets louder and faster (1000-3500rpm). I could deal with a one or two engine noises but this one's really obnoxious. Thanks in advance.

RE: Engine noise
listen and pinpoint the problem.
if it goes off by praying water on the belt, then.... try to find out. remove the belt and turn every pulley by hand. does it produce the same sound? |
RE: Engine noise
how do I go about removing the belt?

RE: Engine noise

RE: Engine noise
saw the clip....weird noise....it doesnt seem to increase with engine speed? it could be your fan clutch, or the fan itself since the noise to me seems constant. try spinning the fan with the engine off..see if you hear that weird noise. Good luck.

RE: Engine noise
have you tried the old screwdriver trick? Get a long screw driver with the engine running..put the metal end on various parts of the engine (not the moving ones of course) and your ear on the other end..if the sound gets louder then that part is usualyl the problem. I remember on my e320 there was a rickety weird sound and I did that and it turns out it was the tensioner, and the shock absorber on the tensioner that needed to be replaced along with the belt. Anyways..good luck man.
