E300D Intake Manifold

I want to remove the large intake pipe which crosses over the top the engine in my 1997 E300D. Can anyone help or refer me to someone who can tell me how?

RE: E300D Intake Manifold

I just replaced glow plugs on my 97 E300D and it was pretty easy but somewhat time consuming. To remove the cross tube first loosen the bracket that holds the EGR and throttle body to the engine so that you can swing it over a inch or so then remove the allen screw from the cross tube where it bolts onto the manifold and just pupp it out but be careful as you will need to unplug the vacuum line and electrical connector on the bottom of the cross tube. The cross tube uses rubber o rings to seal it so when you reinstall lube the o rings with oil, diesel or WD 40 so they will easily slip back in place. If you need to replace glow plugs let me know and I will tell you the ret of the story. If you need to check glow plugs there is a connector you can easily un plug and use a simple volt/ohm meter to test.
