Default driver's seat problems

I have a 1995 e320 with electric seats. The driver's side seat goes forward and backward, the back of the seat works fine, the head rest works fine, but the seat bottom works on the front side raising and lowering like it should but the back of the bottom only raises on the side next to the door. Also, the seat has the memory buttons to recall settings. I took it to get it repaired and they wanted $1850 for the parts, they never told me what parts. I have priced a used seat with a base plate and if I can find one with memory ( a requirement fo r the current wiring to plug right in) it will cost about $150 and another $200 to get the seat cover changed out if it is needed. Anybody got any ideas about what is broke and what I need to do to fix it?

Thanks

the angle adjustment shaft must be slipping or the gear on the door side slips/damaged.

better remove the seat and take a look before making any decission as on which parts to replace.

I had similar problems on lot of different cars.
The flexible shaft comes off the seat on one end. Most of the time all it took was pushing it back. Sometimes for whatever reason the flex had too much play and required some filler on one end.
Piece of wood worked for me.

I was afraid that removing the seat might be the answer. I have ordered 2 different CD sets to see how to go about taking the seat out without damaging anything else. I got the first one which had some useful information but nothing about seats. The other is due any day and is supposed to be more comprehensive. Maybe it will have some instructions. In the meantime I'll check the cables to see if one may be loose. I'm not sure what the dealer looked at to determine what they were going to fix. I may call them back and see. I'll keep you posted. Thanks.

No problem ... glad they will help

It's a pretty straight forward job, so I don't think you'll have any problems.
