What is the trick to getting the crankshaft bolt off at the harmonic balancer on a 1996 C280. I don't believe it is a left hand thread. It won't budge. I am trying to replace by front seal.

 

u need the special tool to hold the crankshaft pully, or u could get a breaker bar put your 27mm socket on, put the breaker bar on the bolt and turn the whole thing until u have the bar against the frame, hop in the car and tap the engine over. make sure u have the bar on the correct side so it doesnt damage anything.

 

Hi: Any luck removing the harmonic balancer? I have the same problem on my 1985 380SE. Did you find out if the bolt is left hand or right hand thread? Let me know if you don't mind?. Thanks
