CD changer activation

Hello,
My 2000 E430 didn't come with a CD changer but recently was given one. Iconnected it in the truck,it has power but when I press the "CD" button on the stereo it still says "No CD Changer". The stereo is not recongizing the CDplayer.
Am I missing something?
