Can 4 captians seats be installed in GL450?
I am very interested in purchacing a GL450, but need 2 captians chairs in the second row instead of the bench seat. We have 3 kids and it is very difficult for them to lift the split seat by themself. I really like the seat layout of the R350, but my wife does not want a station wagon.
Does anyone know if it is possible to install 2 captains chairs in the second row? I have called a couple of aftermarket seat companies and they had mentioned that because of todays safty standards, that it would probably be difficult to find someone that would want to modify the seat layout.
I wish Mercedes would make a vehicle like the 2007 GMC Acadia. This vehicle has all the features that we want except the image? The new 2008 Buick Enclave looks even better yet but wont be avaliable until spring.

Well, upon looking at the Acadia it actually looks like a decent car - I'd have to know about quality, etc to know for sure, but I'd actually consider it. What about the image do you not like? The way the car looks or just the fact that it's GMC? Modifying the seat layout would be expensive and would probably impact the resale value of the vehicle. Safety of course is a concern, but that's obvious.
I feel like I'm taking a step down in image, when my wife as only had high end luxury cars in the past. I really don't have any problems with GMC. In fact I have a GMC Denali SUV and love it. I've tried to talk my wife into a Mercedes R model but she has a problem with the station wagon image.
I've called and emailed about 10 different conversion companies asking them to install captains chairs in the GL450, but all of them are saying the same thing. One guy responded with the following..."The reason is for safety reasons. You would have to have someone manufactor a plate to hold the pedestals for the seats. We do not have anything that would work in that seat figuration. The plates that we use are built for the Chev/GMC vans only. The plates have the floor line so they are a perfect fit."
